However, since the 1970s, greenhouse and greenhouse activities have been the most important source of income of the district economy to an increasing extent since then.
Although there are no large industrial enterprises in the district, there are medium and small-scale factories and workshops. The dominant sector in the first economy is agriculture. In agriculture, the largest paya is made under the cover of greenhouse vegetables, bananas, avocados and tropical fruit cultivation. In recent years, there has also been a tendency to grow strawberries, artichokes and many tropical fruits under the cover. The share of these products in agriculture is rapidly increasing.
In vegetable agriculture, it is often seen that greenhouse farming is preferred. 80% of the people who work in agriculture make a living from greenhouse. In the district, vegetables are produced in greenhouses in two seasons per year, including beauty and spice. The main vegetables produced in greenhouses are cucumbers, tomatoes, fresh beans, eggplants and peppers. In open areas, many kinds of fruits and vegetables such as fresh beans, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, artichokes, bananas, avocados are grown.
The seasonal conditions in the district are extremely suitable for livestock. However, animal husbandry has not developed sufficiently due to the fact that the natural structure is extremely steep in forest villages and that greenhouse and mustard are preferred as agricultural activities in lowland areas with suitable conditions for livestock husbandry. In these areas, dairy cattle are produced in the style of family management. In the forest villages, clay goat breeding is done as a basic livestock activity.
Fishing and forestry are other important sources of income. In addition, the playground located on the beach makes a great contribution to the tourism of the district. Historical Layout;
Gazipaşa is a special town with the signs of history and untouched, authentic spirit in the countryside of the Mediterranean. History and nature are intertwined. The ancient cities right next to Gazipaşa carry the traces of many civilizations today. The unknown or predicted history of Gazipaşa dates back to 2000 BC, which is chronologically quite deep. Luwians, a branch of the Hittites, lived in the region they called Kizzuvatna (Çukurova region) and Arzawa (Antalya region) countries. Because Gazipaşa remained within this region, it is highly likely that the historical journey of the district started with Luwians – Hittites. The remains of the lion in the ruins of Karatepe (Sivaslı) confirm this information. Gazipaşa BC: Year 628
At that time there were two different cities in the world under the name of Selinus. One was Selinus, which was founded as a site state by the people of Hyblaia in Sicily at this time, and the other was Selinus in the south of Anatolia. Selinus is a port city in the Cilicia region and on both sides of Khamenusa (Kestros) Stream. The castle is where the remains of the present castle are located, and it was on an island at the time. From here, primarily Egypt, maritime trade was carried out with the trade centres of that day. The city passed from Greek rule to Roman rule in 197 BC. In the 1st century AD, the Roman King Trojan, who went on an expedition to the eastern Mediterranean coast, fell ill and came to the port of Selinus and was a guest in the house of a merchant. Later, he could not recover and died there. Hadrian, who would take the throne in his place, came to Selinus and took the body to Rome and built a tomb in his memory. For this reason, it is known that during the Christian period, when Selinus was called Traianapolis for a while, it was the diocese center of Seleucia-Silifke Archdiocese. The period of the Roman Empire, which started in the first century BC, continued suntil the 6th century in Gazipaşa, which is located within the borders of Anatolia of this state.
Selinus (Gazipaşa) started in the 6th century A.D., the Southern Mediterranean came under the rule of the Byzantine Empire, and in the first half of the 12th century Cilicia was connected to the Armenian Kingdom. Later, in the Turkification process of Pamphylia together with Antalya and Alanya, Selinus started to be referred to as Selinti during the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat period; because of the fact that the five great teas that originated from the Taurus and entered the sea through the city centre caused a flood from time to time. Taking advantage of the defeat of Gıyaseddin II by the Ilkhanates in the Battle of Kösedağ in 1243, the Armenians recaptured this place and it remained in their hands until it was conquered by the Karamanids in 1275. During the Anatolian occupation of the Mongols in the 1270s, Selinti was located within the borders of Konya and related regions of the Anatolian Seljuk State.
In the period of Anatolian principalities, since 1335, Antalya and the surrounding Teke Principality, while Alanya, Selinti and the eastern and northern regions of Karamanoğulları, located in the central Konya, came under the rule of Karamanoğulları. During the Ottoman period, Fatih Sultan Mehmet's Naval Forces Commander (Captain-I Derya) Gedik Ahmet Pasha included Alanya in 1470 and Selinti, Anamur and Silifke region in 1472 from Karamanoğlu Beylik and included it under Ottoman rule. Famous traveller Evliya Çelebi on page 126 of the famous Travel name “the Selinti accident in the 18th century is an accident with 26 villages connected to Silifke Sanjak within the borders of İçel (Mersin) and paying 80 acres of tax annually. “It has well-maintained mosques and houses by the sea and lush green mountains,” he wrote.
